But more than that, it’s one of the greatest historical political espionage adventure thrillers ever written! The Book of Esther is also one of the most unusual books in the Bible. There’s no direct reference to God, yet His invisible hand is unmistakably clear in the outworking of the events of this remarkable story. It shows us how God was able to work behind-the-scenes—through the seemingly-unrelated circumstances of life—to work for the good of His people and to accomplish His purpose. This is what makes the Book of Esther very much like our lives. We don’t usually see the clear, visible hand of God at work on our behalf. But if we will look closely, we will find that His hand is very clearly detectable in the various circumstances of our lives—bringing about His good purposes for us.
